Romans 5:1-2

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

Over the next several weeks before and after Easter, we are going to walk through Romans 5 and see what Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection means for us now and into eternity. The death and resurrection have an incredible, life-changing impact on us and Paul explains a variety of ways in Romans 5.

The first impact it has on us is our standing with God, what God thinks of us, and what we can think of God. We have peace with God. The opposite of peace is war. Two countries that aren’t at peace with each other are at war. Because of sin, humanity isn’t at peace with God. We are at war with him. We don’t stand in his grace but under his judgment. That’s a scary, fearful place to be.

But through faith in Jesus, the resurrected Savior, there is nothing but peace between us and God. Jesus paid for the sin. He endured the punishment. We now have peace with God through Jesus Christ.

In addition, we stand in his grace. God always looks at us with kindness and his undeserved love drives and covers you everywhere we go. Think of grace like the ultimate, perfect insurance policy, always protecting, guarding, and taking care of you no matter what. It never fails. It never lets us down. We always stand in God’s grace, literally always, through Jesus Christ.

There is nothing we ever have to fear about God. We are loved. There is nothing we have to worry about in life. We stand in his grace.

Normally we would say that boasting, i.e. bragging, isn’t a Christian virtue. Usually it turns into a very self-centered affair. However, you’ll notice in Romans 5:2, Paul says Christians boast. What? How? Isn’t that anti-Christian? Aren’t Christians supposed to be others-centered, God-centered, and humble? Here’s the neat...
