Romans 5:1-2

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

There was a cute commercial on TV several years ago advertising Travelers Insurance. The commercial consisted of a dog who walked around his yard and sat in his dog house while it rained. However, the rain never touched him, because the Travelers Insurance red umbrella hung over him wherever he was. The point? Travelers Insurance wanted you to know they would cover you and protect you no matter the situation in your life.

Paul shares protection you and I have in life that is greater and better than any insurance. We “stand” in God’s grace. That is an incredible thought. You and I know there are plenty of mistakes we make in life. There are plenty of times we don’t act like God’s people. However, that doesn’t change this reality. We stand in God’s grace.

God’s grace covers our sin. It shields us throughout our life. What does that mean? It means God always smiles over us. He always treats us with undeserved love. He shares his forgiveness with us throughout our life.

Wherever you and I might find ourselves in life or whatever happens, we are always protected and covered. We are surrounded by and covered in God’s grace. That’s a great place to stand.

Normally we would say that boasting, i.e. bragging, isn’t a Christian virtue. Usually it turns into a very self-centered affair. However, you’ll notice in Romans 5:2, Paul says Christians boast. What? How? Isn’t that anti-Christian? Aren’t Christians supposed to be others-centered, God-centered, and humble? Here’s the neat...
